CampanacciFloris

Handmade bells by the Floris family in Tonara
Find out more

In Tonara, a small Sardinian village set in the mountains, the art of bell making has one name: Floris. For generations, this family has carried on a unique craft tradition, built on patience, dedication and a deep knowledge of bronze work. Marco Floris, 34, is now the heir to this long history, passed down from his father Ignazio and shared with his brother Salvatore, who is following the same path.

For the Floris family, every bell is not just an object but a living thing, with a unique, one-of-a-kind sound that can identify a flock from a distance. Their production follows a careful process of 26 steps, in which bronze and other metals are turned into sound instruments sought after by herders across Sardinia and beyond.

Find out more

Torronificio Marotto is a historic family-run business specializing in handmade nougat and traditional regional sweets in Tonara, Sardinia. Founded in the late 1800s and updated in the 1960s, the workshop stands out for respecting confectionery traditions and using traditional handmade techniques, with no industrial processes that would affect flavor and authenticity.

From the very start, Torronificio Marotto's goal has been to offer a genuine product true to the tradition of Tonara, a small town in the heart of Sardinia known for centuries for its confectionery. Our production is based on carefully chosen ingredients, including honey, almonds and quality nuts, and on handmade work that gives the nougat a unique texture, soft and fragrant at the same time.

Walking through the lanes of Tonara feels like stepping into an open-air museum. The murals walk tells the true story of the village through artworks that celebrate traditional crafts and trades: nougat making, bell making, woodwork, chestnut picking, rug weaving, and the central role of Tonara's women, keepers of one of Sardinia's most treasured traditional costumes.

A whole part of the walk is dedicated to Peppino Mereu, a well-known poet from Tonara, whose intense and troubled life is told through murals that turn the historic centre into a unique artistic, cultural and identity-shaping trail in the heart of Sardinia.

O gentle Tonara,
land of muses, holy and blessed,
my dear homeland,
when will I come to visit you?
